Frosty lawns

Looking out onto a frosty morning is a beautiful sight to see and the frost alone does not cause any real damage to any lawn if left alone to naturally melt. It’s only when you walk on it that’s when damage will happen!

Walking on a frosty lawn causes the frozen grass blades to fracture! When this happens the frost breaks the grass blade cells seriously damaging them. The effect is that foot prints form in the lawn and can then stay there until spring arrives.

Though the grass doesn’t suffer long term damage, keeping off the lawn in frosty weather is important especially if the lawn is a feature of the garden. You may need to have a little word with the postman to stay on the pathway.
