Natural VS artificial lawn

Here it is! The biggest debate in lawn treatment history. What is better, grass or artificial grass?

A lot will depend upon your preference, also consideration must be made as to if you are happy to keep the lawn mowed weekly, watered throughout the Spring and Summer and invest in lawn treatments. However, if you do not want to water your lawn and take all the steps to maintain grass - then we would suggest to you an artificial lawn. It all comes down to what you would like to do, at the end of the day.

Below we have a pros and cons list of grass and artificial grass, so you can weigh out your options and decide for yourself:

Grass:

Pros:

  • Grass is really good for the environment! Grass sucks in pollutants from our environment and produces oxygen to make the air around us cleaner and fresher! This is good air that we can breathe in!

  • Grass helps increase our homes’ kerb appeal. When properly maintained, it will look fantastic!

  • Studies show that grass is insanely good for our mental health. Many of us love nature, so spending at least 30 minutes a day outside on grass, will improve your mental health.

  • In hot weather, grass can stay cooler, but you must remember to WATER in order to avoid drought.

  • Grass is really good for nature, providing natural habitats and biodiversity.

  • Just 2 square metres of lawn can produce enough oxygen for a human for an entire day!

Cons:

  • You must mow your lawn regularly. Having an overgrown lawn will actually suffocate the roots, making the grass stress.

  • You must be willing to consistently water your lawn. In order for your lawn to grow and thrive, you need to water your lawn. See our tips for watering your lawn.

  • Having a great looking lawn will take time, you must be willing to be patient and put in the work to keep your lawn looking its best.

Artificial grass:

Pros:

  • Having artificial grass is low maintenance

Cons:

  • Buying artificial lawn can actually be a huge cost upfront, especially if you have a large area to cover.

  • Artificial lawns offer nothing to the environment, they remove habitats and have a large Carbon footprint

  • After having artificial lawn and you decide to go back to normal grass, it can be a very tricky task to do. It may not look the same as you want it to.

  • Artificial lawns get really hot in the summer, reaching a staggering 62 degrees meaning that you won’t be able to enjoy your lawn in the summer.

  • If you dispose of artificial grass, it goes straight to landfill!

So there you have it! This is our list of pros and cons of grass and artificial grass. Make the right decision for you, do not let anyone influence your decision in this, as it is a big one!
